Reflexology

Dating back to ancient Egypt, China and India, reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy, a treatment you can have at any age from new-borns to those whose years are more advanced. It works on the idea that each system and organ in the body has a corresponding reflex in the feet, hands, head and ears.

Pressure techniques applied to these areas stimulate the organs and systems within the body and any imbalances can be detected and worked on. This brings about a sense of equilibrium and deep relaxation supporting the body in its own healing process.

Looking at the body as a whole allows not only the symptoms of a problem to be treated, but can also get to the root cause. For example stress manifests in the body in a variety of ways including insomnia, anxiety and IBS to name a few. By working on all of the systems especially the central nervous system, stress levels can be reduced and the corresponding ailments can lessen over time.

Reflexology shouldn’t be used as a tool for diagnosis or a cure for illnesses but it has been known to:

  • improve health and wellbeing
  • boost the immune system
  • increase energy levels
  • stimulate nerve function
Many clients also seek reflexology have treatments for:

Pre and post-natal reflexology

Research to date is limited though it’s thought reflexology can aid in balancing the hormonal and reproductive systems (regulating menstrual cycles to encourage ovulation, easing symptoms of PCOS and endometriosis) in the body as well as promoting a deep sense of relaxation, creating a less stressed environment for fertility to occur.

As a non-invasive therapy, reflexology is the perfect treatment to carry you through your trimesters all the way to preparation for labour. Not only a wonderfully relaxing treatment reflexology can help with common symptoms of pregnancy such as:

  1. sickness and nausea
  2. mood changes
  3. sciatica, lower back pain and SPD
  4. fatigue
  5. constipation
  6. high blood pressure
  7. insomnia
  8. indigestion and heartburn

Reflexology can promote a sense of harmony and relaxation allowing the body to naturally go into labour. Certain reflexes can be stimulated after 37 weeks preparing the body for birth but won’t cause the body to go into labour prematurely.

Post natal reflexology can really help rebalance the body’s hormones and aid in the recovery of:

  1. post natal depression and “blues”
  2. lactation
  3. aftercare from c-section
  4. aftercare from foreceps delivery
  5. aching joints and cramps
  6. fatigue

If you are in any doubt please consult your GP or midwife.
